Affirm us!

Oh dear God please affirm us!

I am having a slight bit of an imagined mental crisis reviewing Homo Deus. At the part where research regarding jobs that will be replaced in the next 10 to 20 years, it occurs to me that a job like tour guide is actually kind of fun. One wonders if jobs will become entertainment, that you may choose what you want to do for the sheer pleasure of doing it? (Like, a more utilitarian world, maximizing pleasure irrespective of abstract utility)

The world would run an Affirmative Action for Humans. What ever people think is best for themselves they can do that just for self improvement. And the rest of the AI enabled world moves on with the most optimal enjoyment of life…

  1. And all of you, those of you with whom I’ve worked for or with in the silicon valley, stop rolling your eyes. I don’t think everyone enjoyed their work with or for you the same way you imagine they do. Much in the same way as American Hollywood potrayal of male fantasies mid-cupulation regarding their partners enjoyment of said collaboration–probably not always enjoying it that much in real life.

    But we can still fantasize…

    • … I thought you were fantasizing that because of the exaggerated ecstatic behavior I observed.

Also, some of the situations, I had thought I was been forced to make regular declaration of loyalty and happiness during regularly scheduled company-wide polls. These were clearly not anonymized as the text caims. Direct managers clearly could see complaints against them. The company also takes result of polls very seriously–this often means retaliation or declaration of lack of fit due to lack of expression of enjoyment. So, roughly, the result, in some situations, is a feeling that you were asking some people to moan convincingly like they do in porn.
